A WEST Devon-based charity is hoping for a bumper day at a golfing event being organised to raise money for local underprivileged children.
The Charity Open Pairs Golf Day will be held at Trethorne Golf Club, near Launceston, and is being organised by CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids).
Tracy Izod, CHICKS fundraiser, said many people think the charity only helps children from 'up-country', but this was not the case.
'Each year we are getting an increasing amount of local children recommended to us for a free break.
'Of the 604 children coming to CHICKS this year, 93 are from Plymouth and the surrounding area. Although Launceston, Bude, Tavistock and Okehampton are obviously not inner city areas, the charity is always willing to accommodate any needy children.'
Tracy said hopefully, the money raised by the golf day will pay for four local children to enjoy an exciting break at Woodside Retreat, the charity's base near Milton Abbot.
All the holes on the course have been sponsored by local business people.
Tracy said: 'I was very pleasantly surprised at how generous the local businessmen have been. Many jumped at the chance to help local kids, they didn't need any persuading at all.'
Anyone interested in taking part in the tournament should call Tracy on 01822 870692 as soon as possible.
The entry fee is £30 per pair. There is a trophy to play for, medals and and prizes.
