IT has been a busy couple of months for the ladies' section at Okehampton Golf Club. Inter-club matches have started and friendlies played with several clubs in place of county matches which were cancelled due to the foot and mouth crisis.

On May 18 the DCLGA bronze open was held at Holsworthy and the three ladies from Okehampton came away with prizes. The second gross prize went to the lady captain of Okehampton, Cherry James, with the second handicap prize going to Jenni Hutchinson. Shirley Reddaway won the captain's prize for best score on six selected holes.

May 23 saw the qualifier of the NSPCC competition being played, the winners were Joan Essex and Gladys Thatcher with a score of 43 stableford points, winning on the back six from Doris Jewell and Marcia Holwill. Trish Vick and Marcia Jones came third with 41 points.

On May 26 on professional prize day, Doris Jewell won the over 70s prize. First in the ladies' section was Lorna Rolfe, second Pam Jarman and third Penny Deakin.

The Warren Crocus qualifier was played on June 6 and won by Shirley Stunnell with a nett 68. Kath Mansell was second and Marcia Holwill third. Shirley and Marcia go forward to the Warren to play the bronze and silver final.

The May stableford was won by Jenni Hutchinson beating Lin Atkinson on the back nine. The June stableford was won by Eileen Piper with Jenni Hutchinson taking second place from Dawn Phillott on the back nine.

The June par was won by Jenni Hutchinson, second Eileen Harrison and third Eileen Piper.

Winners of the Bader greensomes qualifier were Shirley Reddaway and Sue Glanville with an amazing score of 47 points. Second Lin Atkinson and Jenni Hutchinson and third Gladys Thatcher and Janet Hatch.

The ladies' championship was held on July 7 with 36 holes being played over two days. The gross prize went to Penny Deakin and the handicap prize to Marcia Holwill.

The 18-hole-only match played on Sunday was won by Eileen Piper. July stableford results: 1 Marcia Holwill, 2 Kath Mansell, 3 Mary Keir.

The Express and Echo foursomes qualifier played on July 25 was won by Lin Atkinson and Jenni Hutchinson with 39 points and in second place with 35 were Pam Jarman and Janet Hatch. Both pairs will play in the final at Exeter in September.

The two Marcias, Jones and Holwill, have battled their way through the first rounds of the Wills Little Cup and are one match away from the semi-final.

Trish Vick flew the flag for the Okehampton lady veterans and won at Libbaton. Also, well done to Penny Deakin, (first silver division) and Lin Atkinson (third bronze division) at the Lanhydrock Open.
