HURDWICK Golf Club held their 13th annual charity event in October, to benefit the Motor Neurone Disease Charity in memory of the club?s first secretary, Tim Reeder, who sadly died of the disease some years ago. The competition format was pairs, better ball and the winning pair were Hurdwick members Phil Millar and Darren Hill, with a quite outstanding 51 stableford points. The second and third places were also secured by pairs from Hurdwick, with stalwarts Harry Bee and John Hewitt scoring 45 points and Ernie Trimble and Tony Wood with 44. Roger Downing won the prize for being nearest the pin. Over £750 was raised for the charity and the club thanked the visitors and guests who played in the event and the members and sponsors who supported the cause so generously. The club stableford was played earlier in the month, in difficult weather conditions and the winner in Division One was David Miles with 38 points. Second was Phil Bryant with 37, followed by Martin Stevens with 35. Division Two winner, with the best score of the day, was Rob Archer with 49 points, Chris Tear was second with 36 and Ray Truscott third with 35. The twos sweep was shared by Phil Bryant, Chris Tear and Roger Downing.
