GOLDEN wedding Okehampton couple Marion and John King celebrated with a meal in Spreyton attended by family and friends . There were 51 guests at the occasion, which was organised at the Tom Cobley Tavern by the couple?s son Alan, who was there with his wife and son and daughter, along with many of the extensive family. Marion and John were both born and have lived all their lives in Okehampton. They first met when Marion went to work for John?s father in his bakery when they were 16 and 17 respectively. John said initially they were just friends, then ?went together for a while? before splitting up. They got back together seriously a couple of years later. The wedding took place in Okehampton Parish Church on April 2 1955. John worked for his father until the business was sold, after which he worked for W T Endacott, then did a milk round ? eventually going into business with his brother and buying the milk business. Marion worked for a while in the kitchen of the local secondary modern school before leaving to have their son. Marion said they got on well because they agreed with one another. ?He?s always liked sport and I?ve tried to help him. It?s about doing things you like together,? she said.
