THE Lambs came out on top of this evenly matched cup tie with both sides riding high in their respective leagues.

Former Ivybridge players John Hajiyainni and Wayne Crow were making a return to their former club with John opposing Rob Powell with whom he shares a house. Darren Babb was out with sore ribs and brother Jeff took his place in the back four.

Jamie Morgan just failed to get on the end of a corner after three minutes but it was the Lambs who took the lead in the eighth with a well worked move.

The ball was moved to the wing and Chris Gott slid it inside for John Gosling to skip past a defender to send in a low cross that Paul Adcock challenged with keeper Mike Roberts and it fell loose for Hajiyianni to crash home.

Fifteen minutes later the Bridgers were back in it when from a low cross corner the ball was flicked up for Martyn King to head home from close range. The Lambs responded immediately and could have put the game beyond doubt with two very good chances that were missed.

Lee Doncaster got clear of the defence but in attempting to slide it wide of Roberts only succeeded in putting it the wrong side of the post.

A minute later he found himself in a similar position and this time beat the keeper and again the ball went wide.

The Lambs went through a sticky ten minutes but at the end of it got their second.

Again it was Gosling coming forward to let in Gott whose shot was only palmed away and Adcock was the first to react to smash it home.

The beginning of the second half saw Roberts save from Doncaster and from the resultant corner the ball was cleared off the line.

The home side pressed throughout the second half for an equaliser but the Lambs defence held firm with Babb and Captain Nathan Blamey in inspired form.

They were creating the better chances but it was Tavistock?s keeper Andy Meeds who brought off two top drawer saves in the dying minutes of the game to deny the home side and send the Lambs into the last eight of the cup.
