Okehampton Cup quarter final

South Zeal . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0

Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8

THIS scoreline flattered Argyle a little, who took time to adjust to the very narrow pitch, and some physical tackles from the Zeal defenders.

Zeal had the best from the opening exchanges, and it was really against the run of play when a long ball from Mike Vernon saw Robbie Clark beat Zeal's keeper in a race for the ball, then poke it past him into the corner of the net.

A couple of minutes later Zeal were celebrating an equaliser from a quickly taken corner and a powerful header into the net only for the referee to make them take it again because they had not waited for his signal, and this time the ball was cleared.

On 25 minutes Adam Mortimer followed up a shot from Robbie Clark to score on the rebound, and repeated the dose on the half hour when he turned in another cross from the right.

Mortimer completed a first half hat-trick with a spectacular overhead kick on the stroke of half-time, to give Argyle a comfortable lead.

The second half went entirely Argyle's way, with further goals from a Robbie Sandercock penalty, a second goal from Robbie Clark plus one each from Lloyd Chapman and Chris Dearing just before the final whistle.

IN the semi final of the Okehampton Cup, Hatherleigh beat Okehampton Reserves by 6-1 after drawing 1-1 at half time, in an entertaining match at Simmons Park on Sunday.
