ACCORDING to an Independent Schools Inspectorate report, 'The personal development of pupils is excellent' at Shebbear College.
The ISI undertook their inspection in November 2011 and have now published their findings.
The personal development section of the report was particularly glowing.
Inspectors said: 'The pupil's personal development is excellent and demonstrated by their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness.
'Pupils' personal qualities develop well in accordance with the school's aim to create a community in which each individual is valued and where tolerance of difference and a willingness to care for those in need is seen as the Shebbear way of life.
'A good curriculum is supported by a wide range of extra-curricular activities and excellent links with the community. Revision since the previous inspection has ensured that it makes a good contribution to the pupils' education and achievement.
'In all sections of the school, the provision is consistent with the school's aim to support the academic, social and physical development of the pupils and they are well prepared for the next stage in their education.'
Teaching was also praised. The inspectors said: 'Throughout the school, the overall quality of teaching is good with some examples of excellence.
'Teachers understand their pupils' needs and most teaching is well planned to enable pupils of differing abilities to make good progress.'
Headmaster Bob Barnes felt the report reflected the college's future: 'The future of Shebbear College is extremely bright. I am very proud to be its headmaster and privileged to work with such a fantastic group of people.'
