A QUIZ to raise money for communities affected by the 2004 tsunami is being held in Tavistock this month, organised by West Devon group Tamwed (Tamil Nadu/West Devon). Tamwed, set up to support and link with communities affected by the tsunami in South India, has secured a grant from the Lottery Fund to research and plan a major project to benefit poor communities in rural Tamil Nadu. Gill Gorbutt, Tamwed's chair, said the effects of climate change are causing added disruption to the lives of those that the organisation supports: 'There are no quick fixes to changes that will have a huge impact on the lives of millions of people in developing nations.' Tamwed sells crafts created by women in South India, some of which are on display at the Coach House Hotel near Ottery. Two of Tamwed's committee members, Jane Murray and Ian Richards, have recently visited the projects that funds raised in West Devon have assisted. The global quiz night will take place at the Alexander Centre at 7.30 on May 25. Teams of four, at £8 per team, must register with the organisers via email at [email protected]">[email protected] or by telephoning 01822 832897.
