Ocean league cup final U12 Girls Tavistock Girls 6 Activate United 0 TAVISTOCK girls met Activate United in the Cup Final at Kimberley Stadium, Saltash. Tavistock started well but were met with a strong Activate defence. Wingers Glasspoole and Gale worked hard to get their crosses in and Rose commanded midfield. Activate were quick on the breaks and Gordon used her speed to tackle and clear the ball out. Shaw was solid in defence and headed the ball clear to land at the feet of Rose who passed to Hammond. Hammond took the ball through and slotted back to Rose who blasted the ball into the net. Play went from end to end but keeper Foster was not troubled much by the brilliant defending of Shaw and Gordon. Shortly before half time Tavistock had a corner which was floated in by Rose, a bad clearance caught the back of Hammond and rebounded into the net. The second half saw Eales join the defence and Tavistock went out with great determination. Another corner saw Rose float the ball over the defence and after a goal mouth scramble Hammond tapped home. To their credit Activate never gave up battling and Tavistock had to fight for everything. After a strong challenge Gale took a knock and Eales pushed up to left wing with Bassett slotting into defence. Hammond took the ball towards goal, slotted over to Eales who did well to keep the ball in and then crossed over to Hammond who took one touch and smashed the ball home from outside the box. Another fine cross from Rose saw Hammond tap home to make it 5-0. Activate broke through after a good clearance but Bassett covered well. When a free kick was awarded Rose knew exactly where she wanted it to go and curled it round the wall into the top of the net. Gale and Gordon rejoined the team on both wings and Activate were kept in their own half. This was Tavistock Girls first Cup Final and they credited themselves well despite the amount of spectators and volume of noise. The girls were presented with the cup after the match. The whole team were players of the match. Tavistock have a tough match on Tuesday but a good result will keep them top of the league.
