TAVISTOCK Swimming Club fielded five relay teams in the Devon County Championships relays recently, with the 15/16 year old girls' team of Philippa Smith, Megan Fell, Alison Kelly and Lisa Butler achieving the highest placings for the club, coming sixth in both the medley and freestyle relays.

Other results: 11/12 year boys, Sam Broome, Jake Broome, Ross Mallin, Phillip Webb, tenth in medley and freestyle: 11/12 year girls, Rebecca Mills, Amy Warnett, Samantha Jarman, Freddy Luesby, 15th in medley and freestyle: 13/14 boys, Christopher Ralph, Will Crocker, Nicholas Jarman, Sebastian Lee, tenth freestyle and 11th medley: 13/14 year girls, Caroline Ball, Jessica Barnes, Rachael Kelly, Holly Chinn, 15th in medley and freestyle.

On Friday, Peter Freedman, Richard Freedman, Sam Broome and Christopher Ralph competed against a strong Port of Plymouth team who were determined to win the Evening Herald Trophy back from Tavistock.

A very competitive race, yet having a commendable sporting atmosphere, saw Port of Plymouth gradually extend their lead and although Peter was gaining ground on the final leg, there was just too much to do.
