A BRAVE Okehampton teenager helped rescue a young girl who fell into the river at Simmons Park while riding her bicycle.
Gary Bailey, 15, was in the park with a group of friends on Saturday afternoon when they came to the rescue of a girl aged around five or six-years-old. Gary jumped into the water and pulled the girl and her bicycle to safety.
Gary?s mum Jane Bailey said she was ?very proud? of her son?s heroic actions.
Jane said: ?If she hadn?t been wearing a helmet, it could have been very, very dangerous. I don?t want to think what could have happened if they hadn?t been there.?
The incident happened near the bridge in Simmons Park, after the youngster riding the bike rode straight into the river. The girl appeared to have been badly shaken by the accident, but her father quickly arrived on the scene and thanked the boys for coming to her rescue.
