OUT of 8 teams entering the Efford Football Tournament Tavistock were in a tough group playing all A teams.

Tavistock Girls U10s started against newly formed Horrabridge A. Rebecca Rose scored after a long battle and Robyn Hammond finished off but it was a gallant display by Horrabridge for their first Tournament.

Tavistock then took on a strong Lipson A side but with Sophie Bassett, Ness Davey and new signing Sian Langman playing outstandingly no one got passed. Becks Rose scored twice and Hammond finished off for a 3-0 victory.

Tavistock played Staddiscombe A next and this is where Frankie Foster, the new Tavistock goalie excelled. A remarkable off the line save kept Tavistock in the game and when Becks broke through and scored Tavistock went through to the semi?s as winners of their group.

Tavistock met Staddiscombe B in the semi?s and once again Foster made some outstanding saves. It was Hammond who finally settled the score with a well struck shot.

The final was against hosts Efford. Efford played some good football but Davey and Langman played strong in defence. Foster in goal was determind to keep a clean sheet and caught everything. The game ended 0-0 but during extra time Becks Rose blasted into the net to give the girls their first tournament victory this year. Rebecca Rose also won the player of the Tournament trophy.

TAVISTOCK Girls U12s entered a team under stand-in manager John Campbell.

In a tough qualifying group Tavistock met Tamarside winning 5-2; Staddiscombe A winning 2-0; Lipson A drawing 0-0 and Activate winning 1-0.

Tavistock girls went through to the semi-finals as winners of their group and met Activate B.

Tavistock won 4-0 with all goals coming from Kim Davey.

In the finals Tavistock again met Activate and with Activate going into the lead at half time Tavistock fought like made to get an equaliser. It came from captain Chloe Bassett and it was looking like extra time until Activate beat the defence to slot in a second.

The girls all played tremendously and picked up the runners-up trophy. Team: Robynne Honey, Sarah Barrett, Joy Page, Amy Campbell, Heidi Davies, Chloe Bassett, Kim Davey.
