SIX months ago Gill Court from Mill Hill, Tavistock set herself a challenge – to overcome her fears and learn to swim! Last weekend Gill successfully managed to swim one mile across the beautiful Camel Estuary in an amazing time of 33 minutes!
She was guided across by her teacher and biggest supporter Clare Short from Kelly College Swimming Pool.
Clare said: 'Gill came to me last Christmas wanting to learn to swim. At that stage she didn't even want to put her face in the water! She is very determined and has made massive improvements in the last six months. Half way across the water got incredibly choppy making navigating challenging, but this didn't faze Gill, she just kept going. I am very proud of her indeed!'
The iconic swim is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Charity with a limit of 300 swimmers. Liz Vernon and Sam Mitchell, both also from Kelly College Swimming Pool completed the endurance swim. Liz was in the lead pack completing the course in a stunning 22 minutes and Sam, who got slightly lost on the way across, came in at 33 minutes along with Gill and Clare.
