LAST weekend Tamar and Tavy Ladies, in only their second year on the water, stunned the opposition at the National Championships at Newquay. In this knock out competition they caused waves in the first round by knocking out a number of experienced teams, including Rame, and took second place. This meant they qualified for the next round where they again gained second place and knocked out one of the favourites, Fowey A. Despite heavy rain the sea was calm which suited the crew who train on the Tamar. Tension was rising by the third race, the quarter final, with only top teams getting through and controversial coxing causing disqualifications. Tamar and Tavy made their best time of the day on the triangular course. Captain Nicky Sellers was delighted with the team?s eventual 17th place in the fleet of 56 top crews. Many of the crew will be participating in the Great River Race, a marathon event in London, next month.
