TAMAR and Tavy Gig Club held their first ever regatta at Weir Quay on Sunday and the club was pleased to welcome their nearest rivals, Calstock as well as some rowers from Salcombe.

The main event was the five mile handicapped pursuit race for the Great Tamar Gig Race Trophy which was won by Tavistock and Tavys mens crew with Calstock Ladies coming in a superb and well deserved second.

The race was a great sporting spectacle and well supported from the river bank.

Other events included races for the junior section of the club, under 40s, vets and a novelty barbarian race which all provided great opportunities for new club members to get some racing experience.

Spectators and rowers alike were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Weir Quay and the wonderful weather helped to make the day a huge success.

Tamar and Tavy are always pleased to welcome new members of any age.
