CHILDREN at a West Devon primary school have been busy making Olympic pennants of their local area, as part of a nation-wide project — they will eventually given to athletes participating in the Olympic Games next year.
Children of Bere Alston Primary School who attended an after school club run by Alison Kerswill have been involved in the Quilts4London scheme — a project to produce something as a gift for all the athletes taking part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
With the help of parents and the support of Bere Alston WI, each child made two Olympic pennants of the local area.
The choices made ranged from Bere Alston Primary School to prominent local landmarks such as Denham Bridge, the Pimple and tors on Dartmoor to favourite animals.
The pennants were kindly backed and bound by Bere Alston WI, without whose help the project would have taken longer to complete.
One set of pennants have been sent off to Quilts4London to be displayed and eventually given to athletes, and the other set will be displayed in the school.
Any other schools that have been or are going to be involved in the project and would be interested in having a joint display of the pennants somewhere in the local community should contact Alison Kerswill at Bere Alston Primary School.
