LEADING British manufacturer Ebac has come to the rescue of the Plymouth and West Devon Talking Newspaper for the Blind, based in Tavistock.

The charity appealed for help to replace a dehumidifier which was desperately needed to keep the humidity down in its recording studio, protecting the tapes and recording equipment.

Ebac joined forces with one of their retailers in the area, the Plymouth and South West Co-op (Derry?s Department Store) to offer a free replacement unit.

The talking newspaper, which gives local news and information, is distributed to 300 homes each week. The whole operation is manned on a rota basis by volunteers who record, pack and mail out the audio tapes. They are then returned, erased and re-used for the next edition.

No official funding is received by the charity which relies on its base of 105 volunteers and fundraisers to continue providing this invaluable service.
