THE twinning visit of 36 French citizens brought as you can expect a lively exchange of views, the 20th anniversary of the exchanges was also reached at the same time.

We had a family of five staying with us at home, the feeling of trust between the two families was real and mutual, the conversation in broken French turned as it does to the current situation in farming and our relationship with the French.

After a beef lunch on Sunday the aspirations of the family and the worries over Europe, and the damage that is being done to the sovereignty of both countries, you realise that the politicians in Europe are out of touch, and moving against the wishes of ordinary people.

If we can trust each other at this level what is stopping the commissioners listening to us.
