WITH the end of the summer holidays fast approaching and a new school term just around the corner, a West Devon theatre group is urging youngsters to try their hand at something new. Rob Pudner, director of the Plough Youth Theatre, is inviting young people aged between five and 18 years to do just that and become members of the theatre, based at the Plough Arts Centre in Great Torrington. Rob said: ?It is our fifth birthday year and with so many great things happening and many exciting plans for the future there is no better time to join the fun and be part of this very special group.? Following the success of ?Treasure Island?, ?Sweeney Todd? and ?Freedom?, all of which have been performed by the Youth Theatre this year, performance based sessions will re-commence this Saturday, September 8. There are sessions for eight to 12 year olds from 10am to 1pm and 13 to18 year olds from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Both groups will be joining forces for the first time in almost two years and over two terms will work towards their next big production ? ?Scrooge?? the musical by Leslie Bricusse based on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Rob said: ?I am so excited, it?s a fantastic production which I have wanted to direct for a long time. There are some wonderful characters and great songs, I just know youngsters will love it!? Rob will once again be joined by musical director Alan Boxer to produce a piece of theatre which promises to delight the whole family with performances in February 2008. Rob added: ?If you enjoy drama but are too young to get involved in ?Scrooge? or you just don?t feel ready to perform in front of an audience then all is not lost! ?Skills based sessions will begin again on Tuesday September 11. Through the use of specially developed games and activities the sessions focus on expressive movement, improvisation and role play.? Anyone aged between five and seven years old can join the fun from 4.30pm to 5.30pm or between eight to 12 years old from 5.45pm until 7.15pm.
