PEOPLE who have never used the internet before are being given the chance to take their first steps with computers and the internet at Get Online Day 2009.

The event is being held on Wednesday, October 21 between 9am and 6pm at High Moorland Community Centre in Princetown.

Pat, centre training manager from HMCA, said: 'Everyone at the centre is really excited and preparing for a busy day of helping everyone from complete beginners who want to try the internet for the first time, to those who know the basics but want to find out a bit more.

'By coming along to our event you'll be able to find out how to make the internet work for you, whether it's saving money on your weekly food shop or keeping in touch with friends and family, we can help you take your first steps and be a part of Get online day '09.'

Dave, who attended classes at HMCA, said: 'I used to be scared of computers, but the tutors at High Moorland Community Action went through everything at my pace and got me started on a brilliant website called myguide, which gives you a free email account and has loads of courses about computers and the internet.

'Now I know what the internet can do for me.'

The event being held at HMCA is just one of 700 events taking place across England between Monday, October 19 and Friday, October 30 as part of a national campaign by UK online centres.
