CHILDREN at Whitchurch Primary School have been getting fired up over a ceramic project which saw them create seven beautiful pieces of 3-D art which will be displayed around the school grounds.

The ceramics project is the brainchild of Roz Barker and Karen Gronow — parents of children at Whitchurch.

Both ceramicists, they wanted to give the children an opportunity to work with clay and glazes, creating unique designs with the staff and children which will be appreciated by everyone visiting and attending the school for years to come.

Karen said each child contributed to their class's piece of work, which resulted in seven large 3-D ceramic artworks, wich are being put up around the school.

The pieces included 'Tavistock Bridge', 'Tree of Virtue', Egyptian Plaques', 'Dartmoor and Me', 'Sea Life', 'Mini Beasts' and 'Bugs'.

The project was so successful that Karen and Roz have now decided to set up their own business, All Fired Up, bringing ceramic and art projects to schools, colleges and the community in Devon.

Karen said: 'We believe everyone has the potential to be creative and express themselves, given expert guidance.'

Roz said the art projects could be tailored in to schools' or groups' existing projects, or be part of a special event, such as an anniversary, or marking the completion of a scheme.

'We aim to inspire both the children and staff as well as leaving a lasting reminder of their experience,' she said.

Angela O'Shea-Warman, headteacher at Whitchurch, said: 'The Ceramic Project run by All Fired Up has been a wonderful opportunity for children and staff to learn new skills and have fun being creative.

'It has given us a set of fantastic permanent pieces of art work that will be enjoyed for generations to come.'

Roz and Karen said a big 'thank you' to Tavistock College and Okehampton College for allowing them to fire the artwork in their large kilns.
