A LIGHTBULB ?amnesty? at Tavistock Pannier Market on next Friday, September 14, will be highlighting how residents can save energy at home, offering cut price energy efficiency measures to help residents make their homes warm and keep fuel bills low as we head towards the colder months. Visitors to the market are encouraged to bring along their old tungsten light bulbs and exchange for a new energy saving bulb. All it will cost is a recycling donation of just 30p per bulb. And if each householder replaces the bulb when they get home, they?ll cut around £9 off their energy bill every year. The event has been organised by the Devon Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. Energy Advisors from the Centre will be on hand from 9am to 4pm to provide free and independent advice on all aspects of energy saving at home, including lots of no-cost and low-cost tips. The amnesty, supported by EDF Energy Trust, is just one of several successful lightbulb amnesties that have been held across Devon over the last year. More than 1000 bulbs have been exchanged so far, with collective carbon savings of more than 20 tonnes of carbon dioxide during their lifetime. There will also be the opportunity to find out more about the ?Warm Up West Devon? insulation scheme. Run by Westcountry Energy Action in partnership with West Devon Borough Council, the scheme offers discounted loft and cavity wall insulation to all homeowners and private tenants, plus extras including low energy lightbulbs. The scheme also offers referrals for free home fire safety checks from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the opportunity to get a low-cost door chain and mirror entry system installed by Care and Repair West Devon Team. The discounted insulation measures are available to everybody, while those over 60 years or on low household incomes pay from just £50. People in receipt of certain benefits qualify for the insulation completely free.
