A FUN-packed family day to raise funds for West Devon-based emergency rescue charity RAPID UK takes place in Bridestowe next month.
Among the highlights of the day at the Fox and Hounds in Bridestowe on Saturday, September 4, will be a sheep derby with some of the fastest animals in the county, a Grand National, fancy dress style, courtesy of the young farmers, and a search and rescue dog demonstration giving the highly trained RAPID UK dogs the chance to show off their skills.
The fun begins at 2pm and among the other activities are a dog show, a falconry display, live music, search and rescue demonstration, penalty shoot-out, a car boot sale, and a chance to have those family treasures valued by an antiques expert. The event will be brought to a close with a fabulous fireworks finale.
RAPID UK (Rescue And Preparedness In Disasters) is a publicly-funded charity with its head office near Okehampton. It operates both abroad and in the UK in the search and rescue of casualties following major disasters. RAPID UK is also involved in the training and development of local disaster management teams in areas of the world vulnerable to large-scale natural disasters. Teams are currently being set-up in Columbia, Pakistan and India.
Using specialist training, skills and expertise, RAPID UK volunteer teams have to date attended earthquakes, floods and hurricanes in more than 24 countries around the world ? including last year?s devastating earthquakes in Algeria and Iran.
