YOUNGSTERS in West Devon can get hooked on fishing at two free learn to fish days being held in Tavistock.

The sessions take place at Milemead Trout Fishery this Sunday, October 20 and Sunday, November 17.

A fishing expert will provide advice and tuition for budding young anglers. All equipment, including tackle, will be provided free of charge. ?No fish, no fee? ? youngsters only need pay for the fish they catch and take home.

Beginners and novice anglers will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge through one-to-one coaching sessions with Gary Champion, a qualified angling instructor.

Gary said: ?These days provide a chance for youngsters to try angling, catch their first fish and get hooked on fishing for life.?

Children will also have the opportunity to discover more about what lives in the fishing lakes and how to protect wildlife.

l A former Tavistock College pupil enjoyed a rich stream of form last week when he followed first place in an angling competition, which attracted almost 100 competitors, with another big catch.

Mark Williams caught a 1lb 3.6 couch?s bream at the Torbay Open event at Beesands and Hallsands, on Sunday, October 6, to land the £125 first prize.

Two days later Mark caught an 8lb 5oz bass on the River Tamar in a competition with Plymouth anglers.

Mark, who began fishing in the River Tavy at a young age, said he was delighted to have landed the largest and most unusual catch at the open event, and hoped his run of success would continue.
