THE West Devon Twinning Group has paid is 25th anniversary visit to Wesseling in Germany. 22 members visited the town, where they met up with their former chairman Colin Watts and his wife Maureen, who now live in Spain. The group visited a monkey and bird park in Eckenhagen. The next day they went to the Eifel and Manderscheid in the Vulkaneifel, where they stopped at a museum to hear about the volcanic history of the region. The next stop was at Schalkenmehren before setting off for the Weinfelder Maar. On a visit to Cologne they learnt about the history of Eau de Cologne at Farina Haus. That evening both clubs gathered in the Rheinforum in Wesseling. There were speeches by the deputy burgermeister, the chairman of the Wesseling club, Addi Lauer, and the chairman of the West Devon club, David Williams. A river trip to Dusseldorf was arranged for the following day before the group returned home on the Saturday. Next year the German club will visit West Devon.
