Okehampton based shooter, Georgina Geikie secured an extra place in the Great Britain women's 25 metre pistol event in 2012 Olympics.
The 26 year-old achieved the required qualifying standard at the European Championships in Belgrade recently, where she finished 13th from 48 competitors. As host of the 2012 Olympics, team GB already had one place for women's 25 metre pistol, but Geikie's success means that two British Shooters can now compete.
Georgina's love for sport came from the local pony club near the family farm where she took part in the tetrathlon. She then learnt to fence and became a modern pentathlete going on to compete at national level. Georgina, who is a part-time waitress at Chagford, decided to focus on pistol shooting after winning bronze in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games — a feat she repeated last year in Delhi.
