A SPECIAL presentation was made in Okehampton to a 91-year-old man who is still volunteering his time to contribute to the community. Okehampton Community Transport made the presentation to Geoffrey Gill in recognition of his long service, at 91 he is still volunteering for more than one organisation. He was one of a number of volunteers from Okehampton who were presented with special certificates recognising their contribution at an afternoon tea on Tuesday, June 6, organised by The Volunteer Centre in Okehampton for all its registered volunteers. At the Ockment Centre in Okehampton, special certificates were also awarded to: Jeff Baker ? Road Peace; Zoe Bradshaw ? The Ockment Centre; Vivienne Butterworth ? South Devon Women?s Aid, Okehampton; Peter Cresswell ? The Leaze; Tom and Pat Endacott, Dartmoor Museum Association, Marjorie Payne ? Okehampton Library and Get Changed Theatre Company and Bet Westlake ? Winsford Trust. The volunteer outreach co-ordinator also visited villages in the area to show appreciation for all the time people give in rural communities. She cycled to Lydford Gorge to present a certificate to David Weekes, a volunteer warden and also visited The Finch Foundry, at Sticklepath which is also run by the National Trust, who are celebrating more than 25 years of volunteering within their organisation. Each year Volunteers Week ? which ran from June 1-7 ? allows Britain as a nation, to recognise and reward the invaluable work done by volunteers as well as hopefully inspiring more people to give time themselves. Anyone inspired by the contribution all these volunteers make to their community and who would like to find out more about volunteering can contact Sue, the Volunteer Centre co-ordinator at the Ockment Centre, North Street, Okehampton, EX20 1AR, telephone 01837 55047 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] There is also a website at http://www.okehamptoncvs.org.uk">www.okehamptoncvs.org.uk
