A GENEROUS donation of £30,000 from ‘out of the blue’ has helped to secure an all weather sports pitch for the young people of Lamerton.
The Lamerton Sports and Community Centre committee received a welcome boost to its fundraising to carry out the third phase of a major project to improve the outside facilities. Phase one and two of the project involved improving the play park and sports equipment for infants and juniors, which was completed last year, and phase three will be to install a multi use games area (MUGA) on land next to the hall for older children to use.
The MUGA will include an all weather five-a-side pitch for use throughout the autumn and winter, a shelter and basketball posts.
The generous donation came ‘out of the blue’ from businessman Alan Randall, who lives in Thailand and who used to work with Ian Minshull, chairman of Lamerton Sports and Community Centre, whom he hasn’t had contact with for more than 20 years.
