MAY I through your columns express the sincere thanks of the Tavistock Forward Canal Bi-Centenary Working Party to the many people who so generously commented on the exhibition and other celebrations last month?
Total attendance in the 29 days of the exhibition was a rewarding 821 people. We are most grateful to the Guides' leaders for the use of their hall so appropriately located above the canal and to Mrs Haigh for permission to display her splendid pencil sketches of both ends of the canal.
Steve Carreck of GraphicWords put a wealth of knowledge and time into presenting to the greatest advantage the information and illustrations on the history, technology and future of the canal. His work merited all the acclaim that it received.
Many visitors thought the exhibition should have a permanent home in Tavistock and others hoped that it would be adapted for presentation in book form. I am happy to assure them and all your readers that both objectives are being actively pursued. For the present though it has become an added attraction at the Morwellham Quay Visitor Centre and Museum.
