A WEST Devon man and his son who were due to undertake a daring parachute jump for charity last weekend now have to screw up their courage once more ? after the event was postponed due to bad weather. To make matters worse, Guy Massey of Ottery, who was sponsored to have his hair dyed purple for the big day, now faces the prospect of having his locks, currently fading to a pretty lilac, re-dyed to their former vibrancy for the rescheduled jump on October 28. ?And if the weather changes again I could still be purple at Christmas at this rate!? said Guy, who is undertaking the jump with his son, Daniel. The pair hope to raise a combined total of £2,000 for the Derriford group of Cancer Research ? and as Guy has already raised more than £1,800 already, they look certain to exceed their target. They chose Cancer Research after Guy?s wife had a kidney removed due to the disease. Guy said: ?I wanted to do something, a) because I am 50 this year, b) because of my wife and c) because we have lost several friends and business customers recently with varying forms of cancer ? it just seemed the time was right to do it.? Guy and Daniel will attempt the 10,000ft tandem parachute at Dunkeswell Airfield. Guy said: ?That height gives me 25 seconds freefall, travelling 120 mph, before hopefully the ?chute opens! ?Initially, I was more frightened of the purple hair until last weekend ? now I have to go through the nerves all over again!? He said he was very grateful to everyone who has sponsored the jump so far, including Vaughans hairstylists, who sponsored the purple hair-do. Guy and Daniel will be joined by Tavistock resident Stephanie Reid, who is doing the jump to raise money for the MIND charity.
