Tavistock Ladies 6

St Austell Ladies 3

TAVISTOCK ladies? hockey team had the upper hand with attacking play.

Susannah Harland and Kath Collar made some excellent tackles which allowed Tavistock to push hard in the opposition?s D.

St Austell broke through the midfield of Tavistock allowing them to score the first goal, but Tavistock started to turn the game around.

Sue Cork, Emma Bowden and Sue Gawman created good triangular passes on the right which were backed up by Steff Mills, who stopped any major attack on the right wing. A good ball was hit through the D and Judy Miller got on the end of it, taking the score to 1-1.

With heads up, Tavistock went on the prowl and through some good passing and perseverance slotted two more goals, again from Miller.

St Austell were quick to reap back some justice. Although Sue Hornby and Babs Horton battled well on the left, St Austell score within the last few minutes of the first half, taking the score to 3-2 to Tavistock.

Rebecca Creasy made some excellent saves on the odd occasion St Austell broke through, which was not consistent ? Horton and Fiona Dunn worked a strategy which allowed Tavistock to sit slightly higher up the pitch.

Cork, Bowden and Gawman continued to push hard on the right side allowing Bowden to increase the score to 5-2.

Tavistock knew this was not enough to secure the game and pushed harder. Despite some injuries they finished the match with a well earned 6-3 score, the last goal coming from a strong and positive strike from Gawman.
