A SUMMER evening garden party at the Cider House at Buckland Abbey last week raised more than £3,700 for Global Youth, whose ChildLife operation at Mae Sai on the border between Thailand and Burma gives hope to child victims of the recent cyclone in Burma. Being in Thailand the organisation does not suffer the political risks inherent in being in Burma itself, so that money goes directly to where it is needed. At present the centre is home to 150 children, but given extra help this number could be increased by a further 200, and there is a pressing need to do this. Global Youth is very much dependent on voluntary help, and on contributions from its supporters. The organisers of the event expressed thanks to all who generously contributed for their support. Anyone wanting to know more should visit http://www.globalyouth.org">www.globalyouth.org where there is more detail about its work, together with information about how to send your own donation.
