two new venues will next month be added to the successful Saturday Bring Service rota for garden and card waste recycling in some remote rural areas.

Hatherleigh and Bratton Clovelly join Yelverton, South Zeal and Northlew in benefiting from this successful initiative.

The Bring Service, which is a West Devon Borough Council initiative, gives residents the opportunity of bringing their household garden and card waste to a mobile recycling facility in their area.

The amount of garden and card waste collected since the Bring Service was introduced 18 months ago has almost doubled at each venue.

Launch events will be held at Hatherleigh car park on Saturday October 4, from 1pm to 4pm, and at Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall car park on Saturday October 11, again from 1pm to 4pm.

The recycling teams give tips and advice, as well as promoting all sorts of waste minimisation. They also give out free reuseable garden waste bags to encourage recycling.

Andrew Barron, West Devon's recycling education officer, said: 'This is proving a great service for some of our more rural areas which are not suitable for the normal garden and card collection round.

'It is great to see these communities really getting behind this service and making it work.'

Cllr Chris Jenkins, chairman of the borough council environment and community committee, said: 'I would strongly encourage residents to use this service, not just for the convenience but because by recycling the green waste we increase our overall recycling levels for which we receive credits, thereby keeping overall costs down.

'Given that most gardens have had a bumper summer for growing I expect there is plenty of green waste for collection!'
