RAISING money for a cancer charity is the inspiration for a Tavistock woman taking part in the Virgin London Marathon on April 25.
Gail Downham, who is a sales executive/show manager at Trident Exhibitions of West Devon Business Club in Tavistock, is now spending her spare time either training for the event or fundraising for CLIC Sargent (Caring for Children with Cancer) - who support those children who are suffering from cancer and leukaemia and their families.
Gail, aged 49, and mother to Jessica, 16, and Sapphira, 11, is determined to reach her fundraising target after being offered a place in the country's biggest marathon.
She said: 'Although this is going to be a huge personal achievement, it is not just about my ambition and personal satisfaction; this is about the charity that I am running for CLIC Sargent. My pledge is to raise £1,500 plus and, just as important, to raise money for the charity.
Gail said a big thank you to the Red and Black Club for their skittles which raised £155 pounds for the CLIC Sargent.
There are two fundraisers for Gail - tomorrow evening (March 26) there will be a bingo night from 8pm-10pm at the Royal British Legion, Tavistock and on Wednesday, April 14 a ladies' fashion show at Kelly College.
