FUNDS are being raised to provide a special memorial to commemorate Tavistock’s much-loved burger van entrepreneur Graham Goldring.
Graham, who died on Monday, November 6, was the ‘life and soul’ of Anderton Lane layby, on the A386 at the entrance to Tavistock, where he ran the Grub Up burger van with his wife Val for 30 years.
Grub Up was a social hub where people met and enjoyed good company — and hot food — and as a way to commemorate his life and how much he meant to the people of the town, a group of people have set up a webpage in order to raise the necessary funds needed to provide a memorial in Graham’s name.
One friend of Graham’s helping to raise funds is Trevor Lashbrook, who said that, subject to planning permission, the group is hoping to raise enough money to install a bench at the layby, with a tree, or even a picnic bench.
On the gofundme website Trevor said: ‘Graham sadly passed away earlier this month. Many [people] didn’t just go there for food and a cuppa, they went to see Graham and Val for a chat and a laugh.
‘Another company is taking over the site and some of us think it would be nice to have a memorial for Graham opposite on the grass area.
‘He may be gone but will never be forgotten.’
As the Times went to press, £300 had been raised.
