WEST Devon youngsters have been entertaining crowds and offering photographic opportunities in a bid to raise funds for a popular youth café re-build.

Tavistock Youth Café was recently transformed into a portrait photography studio for the day where visitors were able to have a professional portfolio taken of themselves or family.

Lyndon Harvey, from WestDex and board member of the youth café, took the photographs which were available to purchase on CD.

Vicki Lloyd, of the youth café, said: 'We had a very successful fundraising event when the youth café was transformed into a photo studio, lots of families came and had professional photos taken.

'We raised £350 through the sale of photos on CD, coffee, home-made cakes and raffle tickets. Lyndon, Will and Lauren Harvey gave their time to set up and deliver the fantastic photography studio.'

After such a successful event, the youth café will be offering the service again in time for Mother's Day, on March 26 and 27. To book a slot contact Vicki on 01822 612851.

A band night was also held at the Wharf to help raise money, with local band the Cuckoo Collective raising the roof, supported by Matt Dingle and Tim Miller.

More than 160 people attended the gig, raising almost £1,000 for the youth café.

Staff and members of Tavistock Youth Café are hoping to raise £30,000 to match funding from Devon Youth Service for a new building on its existing site in Pixon Lane, which is hoped will enable the delivery of better services to the young people of Tavistock and the surrounding area.

The youth café's next fundraising event will encourage visitors to get their brains in gear and take part in a pub quiz on Sunday March 27.

Taking place at The Terrace Restaurant, above the Ordulph Arms, the event will be an interactive, multimedia, general knowledge and entertainment quiz, along with a raffle.

The event will start at 7.30pm, costing £2 per person with a team maximum of six.

Prizes donated for the raffle would be gratefully received.
