A CHARITY group from Bere Alston is holding a grand finale event this Saturday, the culmination of its second successful fundraising campaign. The Hair Bare Bunch has this year raised £3,600 to buy Edward and William Larkins, of Bere Alston, special all-terrain wheelchairs ? the boys both suffer from cerebral palsy and the wheelchairs will make a huge difference to their quality of life. The group last year raised a similar sum for Cancer Research and the special care baby unit at Bristol. Sam Kendall, of the Hair Bare Bunch, said the group was very grateful to the generosity of groups and individuals in the area who have supported its various fundraising activities this year. She said: ?Once the word was out, we had a massive response from our local community ? everybody wanted to help.? Among those who have stepped in to back the campaign are Tavistock Lions, BATS, the Edgecumbe Hotel, Bere Alston Theatre Group, Bere Alston Primary School, Bere Alston Surgery, Bere Alston United Reformed Church, West View Residential Home and the Victoria Social Club, along with ?countless? individuals from the Bere Peninsula. The grand finale event on Saturday May 27 will be a disco at Bere Alston Parish Hall, plus a cheque presentation and raffle, for which there is a £50 first prize plus various hampers. Excess funds from the wheelchair appeal are being donated to Devon Air Ambulance. The event starts at 7.30pm and finishes at midnight. Tickets are limited so it is advisable to book early. The Hair Bare Bunch is now hoping to raise money to help buy a new, state-of-the-art prosthetic limb for Horrabridge teenager Nikki Bitton, who lost her leg in a tragic accident in March. They would also like to hear from anyone else in the area who may like to benefit from their fundraising events.
