A NEW community support programme is up and running in North Tawton, thanks to a £116,000 funding package clinched recently.
The Devon Heartlands Community Development Programme is being run by the town?s development trust, which secured funding to ensure the new programme?s maintenance for the next 20 months.
Ewen Rae, project administrator, said: ?It?s a multi-pronged programme. We will be supporting the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative people working in the three towns of Chagford, Okehampton and North Tawton, we will also continue providing support for local businesses and community groups and we are just starting the process of consulting with the community to identify projects which will be drawn together into a cohesive action plan, which should be available by the end of the year.?
Mr Rae said projects including an action plan could then be put forward to a ?brokering table? who would consider them for funding in future.
He said the development trust would like to hear from organisations and individuals who had projects they felt could be included in the plan.
He said the Heartlands programme extended the area of work already covered by the development trust ? but the trust still wanted to hear from organisations or businesses which were in need of help.
?With the breadth of skills we can do a lot to help, whether it?s with funding or other types of support ? and if we can?t help ourselves, we can point them in the direction of other people who can,? said Mr Rae.
The Devon Heartlands Programme has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund, West Devon Borough Council and the Okehampton MCTI Partnership.
