PREPARATIONS are well under way for a third annual match to raise money in memory of a young Okehampton sportsman who died from leukaemia at just 23 years of age.

The Neal Cousins Memorial Match, which sees a clash between Okehampton Football Club and Okehampton Rugby Club, raised a grand total of £6,000 last year for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

Steve Harris, one of the organisers, said: 'This year's event returns to the rugby club and it would be tremendous if we could surpass last year's total.'

Mr Harris said the event will run along similar lines to last year's match, although final details have yet to be finalised.

'We will be selling raffle tickets, so any donations for the draw will be gratefully received,' he said.

Mr Harris said a match-day programme is also being prepared, which was 'so popular last year it could have quite easily have been mistaken for a Yellow Pages'.

Adverts in this year's programme cost £15 for a half page or £20 for a full page.
