OKEHAMPTON Football Club showed their mastery of the round ball to beat Okehampton Rugby Club in the sixth Neal Cousins Memorial Day match, which took place on Sunday.
The match, at Okehampton Argyle?s Simmons Park ground, resulted in a 4-1 win for the football club.
As a curtain-raiser to the main match, Okehampton Argyle Under-15s beat Okehampton Rugby Club?s Under-16-side 4-0.
One of the main organisers Steve Harris said this year?s total of £2,500 brought the amount raised in the last six years ? to help set up and run a leukaemia unit at Exeter?s Wonford Hospital ? to £30,000.
The total this year was particularly good as the event was a little more low-key than in previous years with no auction or sponsored matchday programme. However, a prize draw was held in the marquee after the match, with the top prize of a DVD player.
Mr Harris said there had been an ?excellent? crowd of around 400 people to watch the match and enjoy the sideshows during the day.
Hot food was available throughout the day, supplied by Okehampton Lions.
Organisers expressed thanks to Andy McGregor, who compered the day and provided music with the Nightsounds Roadshow.
Organisers also thanked everyone who helped to make sure the event ran smoothly.
The match, which alternates between football and rugby each year, is the main focus of a day of activities to remember Okehampton sportsman Neal Cousins, who died of leukaemia at the age of 24.
