IT was good news for youngsters at Peter Tavy with the completion of the new children's playground in the village — and they were soon getting into the swing of it.

The new facilities were opened to co-incide with the Jubilee weekend.

It took 18 months to raise the money for the £14,000 scheme and see the works completed.?It includes a renovated playhouse, three new climbing frames, pole walks, a rope bridge, an under 5s' play area, a double swing frame and a round nest swing.

Peter Tavy Parish Council thanked the builders and designers Alastair Guy and Sons for their creativity.

The council is delighted with the scheme and says it was a great pleasure to watch the children play over the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

Lucie Luke, Peter Tavy Parish Council clerk, said: 'It was great fun at the jubilee weekend and there were plenty of children who couldn't wait to try it all out. It was lovely to see them really enjoy it.'

The parish expressed thanks to the Big Lottery Fund, West Devon Borough Council and Devon County Council for their grants to make it possible. Picture by Alistair Guy and Sons
