THE County Captain?s Salver at Okehampton Golf Club on Saturday drew a full field. In Division One First Simon Gibbons 41 pts,(back 9), second Johnny Rattenbury also 41 pts and third Phil Atheron 40pts (back 9). Division Two 1st Allan Mann 42pts, 2nd John Flavin 42pts, 3rd Chris Ball 41pts. Division Three 1st Barry Gunn 43 pts, 2nd Sam Herdwell 42pts,(back 9), 3rd Stewart Lewis 42pts. In the second round of the Palairet Cup, Okehampton beat Willingcott Valley 3-2 at Portmore Golf Club. The winning pairings were Gareth Holt and Dave Hooper, Kevin Cornwall and Adam Cook and Matt Soby and John Mansell. The next round is against Bigbury at Yelverton. The ladies section has had a busy week. With their Invitation members invited guests from other clubs to play a Greensomes Stableford. Winning with 44 pts was Mary Keir and her guest from Launceston Liz Slee; second with 40pts Dawn Phillott and Barbara Porter from Tavistock, third Maureen Howe (Lady captain) and Zena Preen from Roserrow 39 pts; fourth Cherry James and Marian Down from Woodbury Park 37pts. Winning the Captain?s Prize was Doris Jewell and her sister Ann Martin from Tavistock, with 14pts on the par 3s with 10 on the back three, just beating Kay King and her guest from Torrington Gail Whitefield, who had 9 on the back 3. The League Team played Saunton at home. Lin Atkinson won 2/1, Lyn Hazelton won 1 up, Rachel Spry won 2 up, Kath Mansell won 6/5, Jane Warren lost 1/3, Chris Stevens had another comprehensive 6/5 win, and reserve Kay King won 4/2. In the qualifying stableford for the ladies Cherry James won the Silver Division with 36 pts, second Marcia Holwill 34 pts, Back 9; third Pam Jarman also 34 pts. The Bronze Division was won by Janet Hatch 36pts, second Chris Stevens 35pts and third Mary Keir 30pts. The President?s Team took on East Devon at home. Dawn Phillott gave the team a wonderful start with a 4/2 win, Marcia Holwill continued with a 3/2 win, Penny Deakin lost on the 18th, Mo Huggins won 5/4, Marcia Jones 4/2, Pam Jarman 3/2 and Cherry James 2up. Another excellent 6-1 win (14pts to 3). At the Devon County Lady Captain?s Meeting at Dawlish Warren Lorna Rolfe was 5th in the bronze division, Mo Huggins 4th in the Silver with Cherry James third Silver with one of only 5 2s on the day.
