Chagford 1

Waldon Athletic 2

BOTTOM club Waldon did themselves a power of good, with a performance that completely belied their position.

For the first half at least, Chagford hardly got a sight of their opponents' goal and couldn't seem to lift their game after going behind in the sixth minute.

Sent through into the home box, Ryan Hare collected the ball, struck it across goal and saw it go in at Scarry's far post.

Three minutes later, Chagford's 'keeper was forced into a fine save, tipping over a free-kick. Waldon dug in and frustration crept in to home minds, challenges coming in rather too sharply for the referee's liking and the visitors giving as good as they got.

On 35 minutes, Shane Gagg scored a second goal and the hosts looked down and out. The only real home chance fell to Davis but his shot went well over Waldons' bar, almost at the break.

With Johnston dropping to a more familiar defensive role, Chagford looked much livelier through the second half.

Miller and Davis repeatedly out-paced their markers only to be caught offside.

Chagford improved and created chances with Forsey and Davis hitting just wide and Crowther-Smith the bar with a long range free-kick.

Substitute Bradley Cook made a useful debut, taking over at right back. Minutes from the end, Chagford got their only real piece of luck as a Waldon defender inexplicably turned the ball past his own 'keeper.

l The two sides meet again, at Waldon this weekend. 3pm kick-off.

Division six

South Brent Reserves 0

Chagford Reserves 2

THE top two in the division went head to head and it was Chagford who closed the gap to just a single point although South Brent have games in

hand. The contest was fairly even for almost 75 minutes, both sides cancelling each other out. It fell to Chagford skipper, Jon Philpott, to open things up by finishing well from the edge of the penalty box after Mortimore and Scarry combined well to set up the goal.

Within ten minutes the score-line was doubled. Tim Bint got a touch on a long clearance, diverting the ball to Jon Scarry, who tucked the chance away neatly. This was a superb team effort by Chagford who deserved the win.

• The reserves end their season at home to Marldon Reserves, kick-off at 3pm.
