East Cornwall premier
Morwenstow 1
Bere Alston United 2
BERE Alston must be wishing they could play all their games away as they recorded their sixth league victory on the road with this hard fought 2-1 win in North Cornwall.
Playing up the slope in the first half, Bere quickly got into their stride on a difficult surface and were in front after ten minutes when a long clearance from Jack Dixon was touched on by Chris Bray to Paul Simpson, who smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar from the edge of the penalty area.
Bere continued in the ascendancy and increased their lead when Simpson cut in from the left and curled a 25 yarder into the top corner for his and Bere's second.
The remainder of the half was pretty even with Jack Dixon making two smart saves and on the stroke of half-time Marcus Pethick had a chance to kill the game for Bere but shot straight at the keeper when well placed.
Morwenstow came at Bere from the start of the second half and reduced the arrears when Simpson lost possession on the half way line and Norman Foster was sent clear before rounding Dixon and slotting the ball home. Robbie Court, who had an outstanding game in midfield, was unlucky to see his goal bound effort well saved and had two long range efforts flash narrowly wide.
Bere were also guilty of missing several chances on the break that would have made the game safe
In the final 15 minutes Morwenstow laid siege to the Bere goal in search of an equaliser but with the back four standing firm Dixon was rarely troubled as Bere held on for a well earned three points.
