A GROUP of keen Nordic walkers, led by a Tavistock woman, completed Alfred Wainwright's 192 mile coast to coast route in 12 days this summer.
The walk began from St Bees in Cumbria on the west coast of England to Robin Hood's Bay on Yorksire on the east coast and crossed three national parks, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors, as well as the Howgill Fells and the Vale of Mowbray. The group, who were led by Nordic walking instructor and Dartmoor guide, Elaine Sylvester from Tavistock, raised £670.00 towards the purchase of a scanner for the accident and emergency department at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
Elaine said: 'We had our fair share of foul weather as we crossed the Lake District, but living near Dartmoor, it felt like home from home so it failed to dampen our spirits.
'It was a fantastic experience of walking over a huge variety of unfamiliar terrain every day, and we were all exhausted but exhilarated at the end!'
