I WAS not surprised to read of Hazel Preston?s concern over the state of the hospital?s ?Japanese healing garden? (Times, August 3). The garden is in need of attention and I write to assure her and other patients that the Friends of the Hospital are very much aware of this and have been in touch with the Mid Devon PCT. There are a number of plans currently under discussion and being costed and the Friends of the Hospital will pursue this matter to a satisfactory outcome. It is most important that we sort this out as the principle of a healing garden is a splendid one and supported by all. It fits in very much with the whole concept of our new hospital ? to provide an atmosphere which will speed the healing process. Our patients arrive under the portico surrounded by the delightful gazebo and shrubbery, have views to the outside lawns from every ward and hopefully are discharged efficiently and courteously. The healing garden will be an integral part of this overall plan and the friends of the hospital will see that the present problem is overcome. Let?s rejoice in Okehampton that we now have this marvellous facility ? how many towns of like size would be overjoyed to have a new hospital as modern and up to date as ours? Join the friends now and help make it better than ever! Martin Perry Chairman Okehampton Hospital League of Friends
