Okehampton Colts 29

Tavistock Colts 0

Credit must be paid to both teams for the intensity, speed and commitment in this game with the added pressure of league points and a local derby at stake.

The first 10 minutes were pretty even but slowly the Okes' eight started to gain better quality ball with prop Stuart Bennie very solid in the scrums and superb around the pitch.

Number eight Tom McGratton was picking up well with good vision and putting scrum-half Richard Friend into space to cause Tavistock problems all game with lots of powerful breaks. From such a break on the Tavistock 10 metre line, Friend got into the 22, as he was tackled, fly-half Kevin Dennis ran a lovely line to take the off-load at pace to score.

Okehampton were now playing the game at real pace with the back row of Luke Crocker, Will Heard and McGratton securing possession at the tackles.

From a quick penalty taken by Friend and fed to McGratton just outside the 22, he made 10 metres and passed to centre Rory Honeychurch on a good line to score, centre Carl Poynton converting and also kicking a penalty for a 15-0 half-time score.

Early in the second half hooker Brad Hudson stole a Tavistock scrum ball on the Okehampton 10 metre line, new number eight Stuart Bennie picked up and fed to Friend who cut inside Tavistock's fly-half for a long run in under the posts.

The final try came from another quick penalty fed to Dennis who crashed over from inside Tavistock's 22; Poynton duly converted both.
