OKEHAMPTON'S Freemasons and Royal British Legion members are joining forces on Saturday, August 9 to raise money for worthy causes.

The event is an 'all-day breakfast', starting at 9am in the Freemasons' Hall on the corner of Station Road and Mill Road.

The breakfast will be cooked by L/Cpl Gareth Jones, of the Royal Logistic Corps, currently serving with the Royal Artillery and due to go to Afghanistan in October.

He will be assisted by RAF Cpl Simon Read, who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The fundraising event will finish around 3pm.

Members of the Freemasons' Lodge and the Okehampton branch of the RBL will be on hand to serve a traditional English breakfast — consisting of egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, tomato, toast and tea or coffee, all for £4.50.

Peter Williams, branch secretary for the RBL, expressed thanks to local shops and businesses, including Waitrose, Somerfield, Lidl, the Fox and Hounds, Bridestowe, Martin's butcher and Endacotts baker for their generosity in supplying ingredients for the event.

The organisers hope to raise around £1,000, which will be split equally between local charities and the Poppy Appeal.
