FIREFIGHTERS from Hatherleigh and Holsworthy attended an accident just outside Highampton on Saturday where a car had gone into the river. The two women in the car managed to free themselves before fire crews arrived at the scene. A line rescue team from Ilfracombe also attended. Hatherleigh station officer Owen Ravenscroft said the incident could have been a lot worse because the car was filling up with water quite quickly. ?Fortunately the two women got themselves out and were okay, apart from feeling very tired,? he said.
