Okehampton Argyle 8

Foxhole Stars 0

IN a tremendous display of attacking football, Argyle crushed mid-table Foxhole and entertained their supporters with a feast of goals.

The match was only 40 seconds old when Ben Waters, receiving a ball inside the area, was pushed by a visiting defender. Up stepped Okehampton midfielder Ben Ferguson to fire home a perfect penalty and give Argyle a dream start.

The Oke attack was firing on all cylinders and constantly troubling the Foxhole defence and a second goal came on 17 minutes. A beautiful move down the left saw Frankie Nomah-Koneh release Luke Alden; the 16 year-old midfielder beat his man and showed great composure to chip the visitor's keeper, only to see his effort rebound off the crossbar. Ben Waters, following up, neatly chested the ball down and then fired an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

Eight minutes later, more good work by Alden on the left saw him find Frankie Nomah-Koneh with a superb pass.

The centre-forward turned and blasted home an unstoppable left footed shot from just inside the box.

Argyle kept pushing forward and increased their lead on 38 minutes with an even better goal. Ben Waters, showing tremendous skill, beat three Foxhole defenders on the right before delivering an inch perfect low cross, which was volleyed home by Ferguson.

Two minutes later, a fifth goal looked likely as Waters outpaced the Foxhole defence, only to be brought down on the edge of the box when clean through. The referee had no alternative than to give Foxhole defender Bradley Ralph his marching orders, but Argyle were unable to make anything from the direct free kick.

Argyle took a breather at the start of the second half and the momentum dropped a little. However, they still looked dangerous every time they attacked and eight minutes in, great work by Luke Alden, saw him set up Ed Squire on the right hand edge of the visitors' area and the Argyle midfielder made no mistake with a fierce shot into the net.

On 67 minutes Ben Waters set up Frankie Nomah-Koneh for his second and then three minutes later scored himself as he volleyed home Alex Wren's inch-perfect free kick.

Waters then went on to complete his hat-trick two minutes later as he turned in Ed Squire's cross from eight yards.

This was a superb team performance for Argyle and every player deserves credit.

Man of the match goes to Ben Waters, but he was given a close run by Luke Alden, who was at the heart of several incisive moves.
